Sew Much Comfort - A Call for Seamstresses

It's been a long week. Lots of projects I'm trying to finish up. Not much time for treasure hunting but I have had time to create a new blog design for a lovely lady. More on that in a minute.
First, please allow me to point you to a wonderful site that my dear hubby just sent to me. It is called Sew Much Comfort. Their mission; "To provide custom-made adaptive clothing to our injured service members free of charge. We hope this clothing will aid in their recovery and provide a tangible reminder ofour gratitude for their sacrifice, while also providing additional comfort and freedom as they recover from their injuries and return to everyday life."

I am signed up for a packet. I hope you will join me in what looks to be a wonderful cause. I needed some food for the soul and this is a very worthy effort.

I've been working on some goodies for ebay...Remember the little pink teddy and the mouse that were WIPs? Both are finished. Mouse isn't up for bids yet but bear is.

And this little mousey will go up for bids this weekend...

And last but most certainly not least, here is my latest graphic design project:

The Feathered Nest~A Lovely Blog
Go and visit her!

Tomorrow, we plan to visit the Memphis Zoo after a visit to my husband's dear Auntie Tess. I plan to take lots of pictures so that I can post about family again for a change! LOL, I'm beginning to feel like some kind of ego maniac or something...talking about yourself so much just can't be healthy. I am very much looking forward to the Zoo!

Up for bids...

Happy Monday! I know, Mondays are usually a drag but believe it or not, at least my morning came off without much uproar. No shoes were lost, no papers that needed my signature when it's time to catch the bus...no fights between brothers. Wow, I am thankful, what a blessing! My 14 year old even got up and made some coffee. Hubby is a little tired but seemed to be feeling pretty good for a poor guy who is working more than he is sleeping.

Now it's fairly quiet with the almost three year old playing with the new kitten. I'm off to read some blogs of new friends I've made.
Hello Amanda and Karin! :) And then some work.

Little needle felted teddy and her ducky friend

Little Altered Art Assemblage Doll

These three little cuties are up for bids this week along with The Pumpkin Pixie from my earlier posts. You can see them by clicking on the links bleow the pics or the link to my ebay store up in the lefthand corner of the menu.

Recent bootie from thrift store treasure hunts...

My youngest son who is soon to be three years old. ( I can't believe he is almost three!)
He has taken to calling our outings, regardless of where we go, 'treasure hunts' or he asks, 'Are we going to look for treasure Mommy?'

I've taught him well. He knows that going to secondhand stores and garage sales is to me, much like a very exciting treasure hunt. He watches Dora the Explorer on television and I believe one of the episodes is about going on a treasure hunt. The little guy put two and two together one day as we were out when I said, 'Oh Teddy, I hope we find some treasures today!" :) From that point on, whenever we leave the house he has asked if we are going on a treasure hunt...

A bundle of boodle... Found two old German roses plates...these aren't hand painted...I believe they are decals but still very pretty and vintage. One adorable apron with scalloping. One cute little coffee mug with pink gingham and RICK RACK :) One Lady's pink Sunday hat covered in flowers and big velvet bow and last but not least an adorable Polly Flinders smocked dress in a gorgeous rose print.

I've never thought about it before but it almost looks as though I have tendency to look for color and pattern whilst on my thrifting trips. As if I pick a color and then gravitate towards that one particular color that day.... At least from the looks of this picture that's something I must sort of subconsciously do. Or maybe it's just coincidence... Interesting. Might be fun to experiment with that. Anyone interested?

Works in Progress...

New Halloween sculpture in the works...this guy has been waiting around for a while. Actually about a year. He was just some shapes on wire for a long time but I have finally gotten inspired to finish him :)

I also have these little meece to finish up:

And this little pink teddy bear:

Who will be residing in this little chintz paper valise:

Life as a Mom and other emotional ramblings...

I've come to the conclusion that being pregnant turns you into a weeping, soft-hearted imbecile. Or a short tempered troll...haven't decided which one I am today.

I know, this isn't an uncommon symptom of pregnancy but for heaven's sake, I can't even watch commercials or read anything remotely less than happy. I break down into a sobbing mess. And even if it is happy, I cry. Ha!

My hubby has been having to work many long hours and I'm here at home with the boys (who by the way are not very impressed with a crybaby Mom). My doctor says this baby is a girl - Thank you Dear Lord!

I don't remember being quite this emotional with my other four children who are all boys. Do you think it's possible that I'm such a mushy mess because this is a girl?

I think the boys are conspiring...

They suckered me into to this yesterday:

This is Navy (the little black monster in the pic) ....the newest member of the family. He is solid black except for a tiny little spot under his chin. The cute little boy (don't let that cute part fool you) is Cullen, my ten year old who began 5th grade this year :)

We went to visit a local cat surgeon yesterday to see the cats he had available...he takes in cats and finds homes for them...all for free. I wanted to adopt a half grown or full grown cat...but NOOOOO... da' boys had to have this little stinker.
I could see that this cat was a house wrecker just by the look in his eye...or maybe it was the way he was climbing the cage door and taking swings at us through the bars... ya' think?
HAH! So, of course, we brought him home. He thinks the couch or any upholstered surface is a scratching post...what have I done?

She's all done...

Pumpkin Pixie will be listed on ebay this evening.

I'm also working on some of these for the upcoming holiday season:

Hand painted shabby rose ornaments.

WIP

wip, originally uploaded by PinkParasol-Design.

Here is a peek at what I've been doing today...A new paper mache doll, sculpture...
I've been working on her for a couple of days. I haven't done much tactile work in the past year and I have missed it dearly! I am so happy when I am making things with my hands. I can forget my problems and just drift with the work. Do you ever feel this way? Is there something that you do that helps you relax?
This doll will be called 'The Pumpkin Pixie" . She will either go into my etsy shop or up for bids on ebay this weekend...I'll keep you posted.

Glorious Vintage Color

YUM.

Just came in the mail this week...all except for the cameo package...I found that one at a thrift store in a whole bag of goodies. I am planning some darling little paper mache creations with these.

My Workspace

This is where I work...well, at least part of the time. I often spend long hours in front of the computer also, but that isn't as much fun.

It's a mess...I know...I won't even show you the fabric. Not yet. ;0) See the little Lefton bluebird pitcher in the bottom right? I just got that...oh am I ever in love. I had those little chalkware bluebirds on my wall as a child. I loved those so much. Those little chubby, rosey cheeked birds...

More later when I get some better pics...

Hello World...

Well Hello! It's me.

I must say that I have been so inspired by so many talented bloggers out there!
Thank you to you all :0) I mean that. I was so very surprised to find that so many others out there share the same interests as myself and have found such a very artistic and entertaining way to express those interests and share them. I look forward to meeting some of you and to expressing my own interests, ideas share my vintage finds and creations and maybe a few of my gripes and groans and family joys.

I am the mother of four boys and one blessed little girl on the way! *Thank you Lord!*

I am married to a fab-tastic and loving husband.

I am an artist at heart and love all things vintage, girly, pink, turquoise, glittered, sparkly, antique, sweet and any combination thereof.

I am a Mom, Wife, Graphic Designer, illustrator, thrift store fanatic, sculptress, painter, seamstress, decorator, collector and I love Dolls, Bears, Altered Objects and above all that tiny little vintage rick rack you sometimes find in the bottom of gramma's sewing tin....the kind that is all wrapped around a card and pinned and has that certain 'old ' smell that is pleasant like an old library. The tiny rick rack that sets your imagination trotting about and makes you want to pull out the sewing machine...or maybe not...perhaps I will just sit here and admire these lovely little wavy lines of scrumptious color...
